Uluru II

We have seen the sunrise, we have walked around the rock. What else is there to do? Let’s find out 🙂

Uz jsme videli mrazivy vychod slunce nad Uluru, sli jsme kolem dokola, ale je to vsechno co se tu da delat? 🙂

At first we’ve heard rumours that you can actually climb the Uluru. It was really mysterious because we were asking ourselves the same question over and over: “Are we going to climb it or not?”
Later on we found out that the Aboriginal community has a very strong laws for their own people. For them the Uluru is a sacred place and climbing it is disrespectful. As we both are people of open mind and we fully respect all religions we came to conclusion that we can climb it with respect.

Here we are at the absolute beginning of the red pilgrimage.

Climbing Uluru is infamous for its number of fatalities. There have been almost 40 deaths that have occurred during attempts to climb it. And because of that there are 6 conditions that all have to be met for the rangers to open the climb to public. Right before we arrived the climb was closed for 4 consecutive days and we were just lucky. Or was it luck (in our case there is nothing like luck)? 🙂
The number one cause of fatalities is in our opinion ego. Yes, that’s right. Unfit people feel the urge to be “up there” in 20 minutes and with almost no climbing skills they just go berserk. We have witnessed this and it’s just stupid. 60 year old unfit people in jeans were trying to keep up with us or even to race us. We have even seen some sort of “I beat your ass” smile from one guy. We didn’t race, we ENJOYED it and took it slowly.

The view and the climb are both breathtaking. Uffffff

Yes, we did it. It was worth everything, every km we had to drive. It has been one of the most spectacular experiences in our lives (along with the sunrise and walk-around). Surprisingly the climb itself was more enjoyable than standing at the top. You will probably understand once you get there yourself 🙂 Enjoy this short video of our climb:

Here we have couple of tips if you decide to go for it:
– Take it SLOW. If anything happens the rescue guys don’t have many options how to reach you – it’s either a helicopter or they wait till you fall/roll down 🙂
– If you have a chance to plan your visit make sure you keep an eye on the weather and wind conditions. These are the main factors for closing the climb
– Wear lightweight soft shoes with soft rubber sole if possible. You need some flexibility of the sole and the soft rubber helps a lot with the grip. Our choice was Vibram Fivefingers and the experience was awesome.
– There is some phone coverage at the top so you can make spectacular calls 🙂
– The journey back is equally challenging, save some energy
– Have some proper protein dinner afterwards. Your quads will thank you 🙂

Uluru ma posvatny vyznam pro Aboridzinskou komunitu a otazka tedy zni jestli nam nase svedomi dovoli lezt nahoru a dokonce si to uzit? Oba dva jsme velice otevreni vuci ostatnim nabozenstvim a kultaram a ruzne posvatne objekty ci zvyky respektujem.

Uplny zacatek naseho “rudeho vystupu”. Neni zde zadna podobnost s nastupem komunismu v CR 🙂

Vystup a vyhled vas oboje zanecha doslova bez dechu 🙂

Hura! Zvladli jsme to! AAAAAAZZZZ nahoru 🙂 Jenze jsme potom zjistili, ze nas mnohem vic bavila samotna cesta nez cil. On totiz vrsek Uluru je takova jakasi placata ples 🙂 V okoli neni nic jineho nez Kata Tjuta a poust a ty typci v dzinach 🙂 Proste samotny vystup nam smakoval vic.

– Jestli mate byt i malou moznost trochu manipulovat se samotnym datem navstevy, tak urcite hlidejte predpoved pocasi a hlavne povetrnostni podminky. To jsou faktory, ktere zaviraji/otviraji cely vystup spolecne s neovlivnitelnymi nabozenskymi udalostmi.
– Vezmete si lehke sportovni boty s podrazkou z mekke gumy. Vase noha bude potrebovat celkem slusnou flexibilitu a mekka guma opravdu pomaha s gripem na kluzkem a nestabilnim povrchu. My jsme si vzali nase Vibram Fivefingers a spokojenost prevelika 🙂
