Tasmania – Richmond, Hobart & MONA

We’re back in Tassie but this time we leave nature behind and go for some historical and art stuff πŸ™‚

Pojdte s nami zpatky do Tassie!

Ok ok, we will do just a small mention of nature before go all urban, ok? πŸ™‚ This is truly another freak of nature that you can find only in Tassie. Easily accessible but you need to time your visit a bit (tides and stuff) and also have a bit of luck with weather. It’s best to go there for sunrise or sunset. Don’t miss out if you are anywhere close.

01

It is worth mentioning that the whole Tasman Peninsula is a freak of nature and you can stumble onto all different kinds of rock/sand/sea formations that you won’t be able to see anywhere else.

Richmond
The fairy tale town with its famous bridge is a must for anyone in Tassie. There’s a beautiful main street with heaps of interesting shops, coffee shops and stuff. Couple of hours are enough for this historical stop-over and you will definitely not regret it.

Hobart
The capital city of Tasmania with its rigid historical architecture. It was a nice day that we spent in Hobart but it was just enough. There are some nice historical houses by the wharf, most of the private houses are really nice but if you don’t have heaps of money to spend on food there is honestly not much to do in Hobart.

This where the traditional and famous Salamanca Markets take place

The moment when you get out of Hobart things start to get interesting. There are couple of nice and peaceful walks along the river or you can just go for barbeque πŸ™‚ Maybe there is more to Hobart but we had a limited time for the whole Tassie and with our last few days we wanted to spend them close to Mt Craddle which (at least) for us was more appealing than another city. Maybe next time Hob πŸ™‚

Mt Wellington
The majestic and formidable mountain guarding Hobart. Oh yes, it was on our TO DO list for sure. Have you heard about Tassie weather? It’s quite similar to Melbourne = you can get all 4 seasons in one day. And so we went for the 15 km long and winding road to the Wellington summit with high hopes of seeing beautiful sunset and then sunrise. Oh boy, we were wrong πŸ™‚ While Hobart was enjoying calm and relaxed evening, up in 1200 metres above sea level there was us and freaking blizzard. There was even snow on the top and we had a bit of fun with it πŸ™‚

01
Snow in Australia during summer? Sure, no problem πŸ™‚

With hopes that morning will be better we stayed on the summit in the blizzard. And what better way to make this evening one hell of an experience? We watched the old school horror The Thing and drank home made Slivovice to keep us warm and not scared πŸ™‚

MONA
What an idea to make our Tassie experience complete! MONA is a total contrast to all our nature oriented adventures. It is perverted, controversial, little bit historical but most of all astonishing, inspiring and well worth at least a half day of your time. Go for it, you won’t regret it.

They have (sometimes quite twisted) great sense of humour in MONA

Cheese tasting in Tassie
Tassie has probably the best dairy reputation in Australia. It’s the place where people go for their gourmet honeymoon or some serious food tasting adventures. Or atleast that was our idea. We went through couple of cheese tastings and it was a great experience to see parts of the process of cheese making, talk to the guys in there and see that it’s possible to do farm to table.
Here’s the thing: if you are from Europe then you will probably not enjoy most of the cheese. The problem with 99% of all Australian cheese is that it is bland, mild and lacking any different flavour. It’s not that sexy to taste 1000 variations of cheddar, trust me on this one. European cheese is really pungent, strong and you will find very unique mix of taste or combination of cultures in Europe.
Don’t take me wrong, we enjoyed the whole cheese journey but our taste buds are set for something else. Nonetheless we did some proper cheese plate in the end πŸ™‚

01

That’s it for today folks, don’t be mad at us for not liking your cheese, because we still love Tassie! Don’t forget to check out the gallery at the bottom of this page and leave us some comments. Cheers ;P

Jeste nez zabehnem do te historie tak udelame rychlou odbocku k takovemu nevsednimu chodniku. Zni to jako neco historickeho, co? Kdepak!

Hlavni devizou, ktera sem bohuzel laka stovky asijskych turistu je krasny most. Lepsi uz to fakt asi byt ani nemuze. To je proste fakt jako z pohadky! Kdyz bychom tady byli v zime, zasnezilo, dat si svarak a koukat na ten most. Fuuuuuuuf. No treba nekdy v budoucnu. V galerce pochopite az uvidite πŸ™‚

Hobart
Domy vypadaji fakt bytelne oproti zbytku Australie a bude to celkem pochopitelne az si prectete pasaz s Mt Wellingtonem πŸ™‚ V Hobartu sme stravili moc pekny den chozenim a zkoumanim ruznych zakouti a zajimavosti. Bohuzel krome par prochazek toho tady moc neni a pokud clovek nema strom na kterem pestuje penize tak si ani moc nemuze uzit ruzne kulinarske vyhlasene podniky – vsechno jidlo a piti je tady fakt drahy.

01

Prochazka podel vody. Slusny, co?

Mt Wellington

01
Snih v lete v Australii? Neni problem!

Predstavujem vam MONA. Jedna z expozic byli treba odlitky nekolika desitek damskych prirozeni a nebo treba socha mrtveho arabskeho teroristy ulita z cokolady v zivotni velikosti. Tohle se proste musi videt.

01
V MONA maji celkem spravny (nekdy znacne ujety) smysl pro humor

Ochutnavani syru v Tassie

01

Dalsim problem je ta opravdu neprijemna dominance cedaru. Je vsude a kazda syrarna ma nekolik druhu ochucenych cedaru. Jenze ony ty verze sou ochucene fakt mirne. Poradna chut chybi a clovek narazi na hlavni problem temer vsech Australskych syru – chybi jim charakter, poradna chut. Cele spektrum je opravdu bezpohlavni a nezajimave. Kdyz clovek ochutna poradne uzrale Olomoucke tvaruzky nebo nalozeny hermelin a nebo i “obycejnou” Nivu tak proste nemuze uprimne ocenit mdly cedar. Ozici to maji uplne obracene a z Tasmanskych syru uplne sili, ale proc ne. Kazdy si najde svoje, ne? My si nasli ostruziny a stastnejsi uz byt nemuzem πŸ™‚

Na zaver sme si preci jenom udelaly syrovy vecer a nalezite to uzili. Vzdycky se snazit z kazdeho momentu vymlatit to nejlepsi πŸ™‚ Mejte se krasne a u dalsiho dobrodruzstvi AHOJ !
